Did Obama just pull a fast one on the Republicans?
Some commentators are arguing that Obama may have pulled a fast one on the Republicans and gotten a second "stealth stimulus" in return for extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. They argue that Republicans agreed to extend unemployment benefits, cut payroll taxes and business taxes, and extend a grab bag of tax credits for college tuition and other items that constitute, in effect, a second stimulus that Obama could not have otherwise gotten passed. Some speculate that if this "stealth stimulus" works it could start to bring unemployment down and improve Obama's and Democrat chances in 2012. They may be just perfuming the pig but wouldn't it be great if the tax cut deal ended up costing Repubs in 2012.
