Judson Phillips, a Tennessee lawyer who heads Tea Party Nation. Mr. Phillips is not happen with what he has heard about cuts in the Defense Department’s budget, especially a proposal to cut the number of carrier task forces from 11 to 9. He writes:
If we decided to build a couple of new carriers, thousands of workers would be hired for the shipyards. Thousands of employees would be hired for the steel mills that would provide the steel for the hull and various sub contractors would hire thousands. Do you know what that means?
It means they would receive paychecks and go out and spend that money. That would help a recovery. That is a shovel ready project!
So, what are you saying Mr. Phillips? Are you saying government spending creates jobs? I agree. So, let’s build those carriers. And, while we are at it lets repair some bridges and build some high speed rail lines and build and staff some new schools. That way we could put to work hundreds of thousands of workers
Of course, when you read all of Mr. Phillips’ statement you find that he is only in favor of spending on carriers and other military stuff and, of course, the spending can’t be funded through borrowing or by increasing taxes because that would be terrible for the country. No, Mr. Phillips wants to get the money to build carriers but cutting spending on other things like, say, education, the environment, infrastructure, etc. Of course then those cuts will result in thousands of workers being laid off. Yea, but Mr. P would get his carriers.
I’m always amazed at just how dumb the Tea Party folks are.
