In a ruling today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia became the fifth appeals court to uphold the
constitutionality of Obamacare’s individual mandate. Only one appeals court has found the mandate
unconstitutional.
The ruling today came from a conservative-leaning appeals court and was written by Judge
Laurence Silberman, a conservative justice appointed by Ronald Reagan. Justice Silberman wrote: “The right to be
free from federal regulation is not absolute and yields to the imperative that
Congress be free to forge national solutions to national problems.”
