Philip Bump of the Chicago Tribune took a close look at the
statement by Meredith McIver (see my previous post) and notes something
fishy. McIver says “I’m an in-house
staff writer for the Trump Organization.” Her confession is written on stationary with
The Trump Organization letterhead.
So what? This what.
McIver says she works for the Trump Organization, not the
Trump Campaign. If the Trump Campaign
did not contract with her to do the speech writing, they may have used
corporate resources for political purposes.
That could violate federal law and be a criminal offense if it was done “willingly
and knowingly.”
